Flexible Provision

  • At New Direction we are able to respond directly to the needs of the individual.
  • We are a small community with a staff who have a wide range of expertise in education, therapy and social care.
  • Our school specialises in helping pupils who have been failed by mainstream schooling and who have become disaffected from learning.
  • We can offer support for problems such as Autism, Aspergers, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, OBD, Behavioural and Learning difficulties.
  • We are able to provide a range of therapies that focus on helping members of our community cope with their problems.
  • We currently offer Equine Assisted Therapy, Advocacy, Family Therapy and Individual Counselling from specialist staff. We are able to access other therapies through other agencies when and if the need arises.
  • We offer qualifications based on the AQA unit award scheme and are able to extend this to GCSE and NVQ level.

Unique Setting

  • Our premises are set in the countryside on the edge of Clowne, in North East Derbyshire.

  • The site is peaceful and offers a respite from the constant ‘busyness’ of large schools and institutions
  • We have 40 acres of pasture and woodland which form a rich resource for our provision.
  • Also on the site is a working stable and livery yard. We keep goats, cattle, sheep and poultry.
  • All our pupils and adults can learn horse and animal care and have the opportunity to learn to ride.
  • We have cultivated garden areas which provide opportunities to learn about horticulture.
  • We are able to offer work-based learning on site.
  • Our horses are used in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. This is a unique form of therapy, offered by our trained counsellors, which allows people to address their individual problems through interaction with the accepting nature of the horse.
  • We are close to the M1 motorway and there is easy access to Mansfield, Chesterfield, Sheffield, Bolsolver, Shirebrook, Clowne, Creswell, Worksop, Warsop, Bassetlaw, Rotherham, Barnsley and Nottingham.
  • We are also easily accessed from all parts of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and Humberside.
